MINERAL BOARD INDUSTRY

  • OSB

  • OSB is a type of wood-based panel made from slender long flakes (strands). Because of this particular geometry the strands can be aligned/oriented by suitable methods during mat-forming. As early as 1973 Siempelkamp began development work of orienters for strands, which gained immediate acceptance by producers of OSB as being optimally suited.

The great advantage of OSB is the possibility to orient layers of strands lengthwise and crosswise, thus achieving higher physical properties and greater rigidity. The "classic" bonding of the strands is with phenolic resin, with wax added in the glueing process. Thus, good moisture resistance of the board is achieved for construction and other exterior uses. Demand is strong for this type of board in the furniture industry as well as for packaging applications, and it is appreciated for its decorative surface effect with a steadily growing market.
