MINERAL BOARD INDUSTRY

  • ContiRoll® technology: simply great!

  • Among continous presses, the ContriRoll® has had the leading position for a long time and has made Siempelkamp the world market leader. The ContiRoll®, the centerpiece of forming and press line, is designed for all wood-based materials. In 1985 we built the first ContiRoll®. The key data for this press were a length of 16 m and daily capacity of 300 m3.

24 years and a series of developmental milestones later, the world’s longest ContiRoll® press with a length of 77 m was put into operation. Daily capacities of more than 3.000 m3 are no longer visions of the future. During this period of ContiRoll® history more than 220 press lines were ordered and put into operation by Siempelkamp. The design principle has remained the same, the technical details, however, were fine-tuned over the course of time. Due to continuously improved features in the areas of mechanics, hydraulics, electronic engineering and control technology, the efficiency of this press has been unsurpassed and board qualities have been consistenly high!
Depending on capacity and board size requirements, customers can select from three different design concepts. The presses are suitable for the production of all wood-based materials such as particleboard, MDF/HDF, OSB/OSL, CSL and offer the same technical performance.

    ROLLER ROD CARPET

A "carpet" of calibrated roller rods runs between the steel belt and the hot platen. The equally spaced rods span the width of the hot platen and roll freely along the length of the press. Roller rod friction and the resulting power consumption are therefore reduced to a minimum.

    Advantages:
    - low lubricant consumption
    - minimal power requirement
    - simple board width variation

    HEAT TRANSFER

Heat is transferred to the product directly and evenly from the hot platen through the roller rods and steel belt. Precise manufacturing of the components ensures optimal heat transfer. The rapid rate of heat transfer results in reduced resin cure times.
    Advantage:
    - increased capacity

    HYDRAULIC CYLINDER ARRANGEMENT

A row of hydraulic cylinders is bulit in to each equally spaced frame along the length of the press. Pressure is applied to the product by these cylinders and is automatically controlled independently across the width of the press and along the length of the press. Proportional valves control the hydraulic pressure.

    Advantages:
    - flexible pressure distribution
    - optimal density profile control
    - precise thickness control

    DRIVE TECHNOLOGY

All critical variable speed drives are equipped with digital controls and/or load sensing circuitry. This ensures accurate speed matching between press steel belts, roller rod carrier chain, pre-press and forming belt-drive motors. Advantage: smooth uniform belt speed

    PRESS FOUNDATION

The steel belt tensioning forces are absorbed by the four longitudinal beams, which run along the length of the press and are attached to the press frames. The press foundation therefore supports only the static weight of the press and does not absorb any of the belt tensioning forces.
    Advantage:

    - low foundation costs

    INSTALLATION

The main components of a ContiRoll® press line, including parts of the mat formers, side trim saws, pre-press, ContiRoll® press infeed and major portions of the hydraulic system, are supplied pre-assembled, pre-wired and tested.
    Advantage:
    - short installation time,
    - fast start-up.
